Structural Engineering

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What type of structural engineers are you?
A: We specialize in providing creative and appropriate structural solutions for our clients. By “appropriate” we mean that our goal is to provide structural solutions and details that support the concept of each project. We take pride – professionally and personally – in helping architectural teams achieve their design vision.

Q: What type of projects do you do?
A: We have extensive experience in a wide variety of building projects: from a timber bridge entrance to a medieval castle, small and large private residences, schools, community centers, fire halls, performing arts centers, schools and other institutional buildings, commercial buildings and public facilities.

Q: What type of structural materials are you most familiar with?
A: We have extensive experience in design and detail engineering in timber, steel, masonry, and concrete – or any combination of these materials. We get excited when we have an opportunity to combine different material in innovative ways to create structural elements. We strongly believe in finding the “right” material for each problem or project.

Q: Who will I interact with in your office?
A: You will deal directly with Bengt Jansson, who is the managing partner of our structural engineering division. In the last 18 years, Bengt has worked on more than 150 projects in British Columbia, United States and Sweden. Before joining Parallel, he worked with some of the most respected and recognized consulting engineering firms in British Columbia. More recently, he was the structural project engineer on award winning projects such as the Prince George Airport Expansion and Renovation (Phase I & II) and the Banser Residence and Family Retreat in Metchosin on Vancouver Island.

Q: What is your relationship with Parallel AT?
A: Our structural division and architectural technology division (Parallel.AT) are two companies sharing common goals, standards, ethics, space and ownership. Our involvement in projects is flexible with the needs of the client. We can provide independent services to a project, or we can offer an integrated group of services to give additional benefits where needed.
